What is whistleblowing?

Whistleblowing is when you report something that is in the public interest, such as:

  • Criminal activity
  • A serious breach of health and safety
  • Risk or harm to vulnerable people
  • Abuse, discrimination, or safeguarding concerns
  • Fraud, malpractice, or regulatory breaches
  • Attempts to cover up any of the above
  • You do not need to have proof — just a reasonable belief that something is wrong.

Your rights

If you report a concern honestly and in the public interest, you are protected by the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 (PIDA).

  • You can raise concerns anonymously.
  • You will not be treated unfairly or dismissed for raising a genuine issue.
  • We will take every step to keep your identity confidential if requested.
